Closing Report:

The Membership BBQ and Cruise started out with cold and misty weather.  We still had our BBQ but, between the light rain and a little wind, we were able to pull it off.  We counted 22 people that joined us for the BBQ.  To view the photos of the harbor cruise, please click here.

After everyone eat lunch, we cleaned up the area, packed away of BBQ equipment and extra food (between the misty skies) and 18 members boarded the RV Preservation for a awesome harbor cruise.  The weather was still a bit cool and windy, however, the sun was starting to peak out and we were on our way to have a great afternoon of cruising the harbor.

We cruised to lake head Marina to take on some fuel to get the boat ready for a long trip to Silver Bay marina in two weeks.  After fueling we toured around the harbor and viewed the areas most people don't see on a normal tour on the Vista King and Queen.  We headed out into the lake after passing through the Duluth entrance via the Duluth Areal Lift Bridge.  This alone was quite an exciting event for most on the boat.  They actually got to wave at people on shore rather than being the people on shore waving at the ships and boat passing through the Canal.

We headed out into the lake to try out the newest piece of equipment that was added to the RV Preservation, the Garmin EchoMap 74 SV Plus side scan sonar, depth sounder and chart-plotter.  We side scanned the Thomas Wilson.  Totally AWESOME we all said as we cruised over the top of the shipwreck.  All on board had to see it live and were ultimately impressed by the new equipment on the boat.

After 4 hours of putting around the harbor, we headed back to Spirit Lake Marina (The home Port of the RV Preservation).  We off loaded and thanked everyone the joined us for the event.  Cleaned up and headed for home.  (Which was sad for a few of us).

I very good time was had by all.  Our most favorite passenger of the day was Elena, Dick Giese's friend that has never been on a boat before, much less touring the Duluth and Superior Harbors.  She was very impressed with the tour and all the information we had on all the ships in the harbor.

Thank you to those that joined us this year for the Membership BBQ and Cruise on the RV Preservation.  We really apreciate your time and support of our projects and the RV Preservation.

A special thanks to those that worked on the boat to prepare it for the season, the people that helped with the BBQ and cruise event and, to those that went through the Captains and Crew training the day before.

We hope you had a great time and hope to see you on a project this year.
