About the GLSPS
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society is based in Fridley Minnesota. The GLSPS is a registered 501.c3 non-profit organization established in May 1996 as an instrument to stabilize and protect our deteriorating shipwrecks of the Great Lakes region. GLSPS members are divers, historians, and authors who share a common love of shipwrecks and a vision of preserving and protecting their history for both underwater and above water treasures and artifacts. The GLSPS was also formed to deal with the unique technological and legal aspects of these underwater sites.
In its over twenty five years of service, GLSPS has sponsored hundreds of service projects and programs to realize its purpose. These range from the North Shore of Lake Superior shipwreck buoy program, to our Put-It-Back program, to shipwreck stabilization projects, to our National Register Nomination program, to creating shipwreck displays for area museums and parks. Each year in April, the GLSPS partners with
Superior Public Museums,
Wisconsin Underwater Archaeology Association, and,
Lake Superior Marine Museum Association to sponsor an annual maintenance, multiple improvements and preservation to the museum ship called the
SS. Meteor
in Superior, Wisconsin.
The GLSPS Membership and the associated multiple levels are open to anyone. Please join us in preserving maritime history by becoming a member. Donations are welcome as well. Please see our "Donations" menu on the front page of the website.
