2010 Projects
Our 2010 Summer Project Schedule includes activities for both diving and non-diving members to participate in. We encourage non-diving members to assist with surface support and project documentation, whether keeping written notes or photographing the project work.
- Opening the season is a joint project between Superior Public Museums, LSMMA, and the GLSPS. It involves a weekend of restoring the SS Meteor Whaleback on Barkers Island in Superior, WI.
- After Memorial Day, we begin preparing our project boat, the R/V Preservation, for summer projects on Lake Superior.
- Our Underwater Tools & Techniques class is held in June to provide training for use on underwater preservation work.
- July through September is when our underwater projects occur. As most of these projects occur in or near Lake Superior, a common launch point is the R/V Preservation, moored at Spirit Lake Marina in Duluth, MN.
- Group size is limited on most projects so call the Project Leader to discuss opportunities. They can provide a detailed description of the project and what your time commitment will be, as well as any requirements for participation.
- If there is underwater work, you will need to bring cold-water diving gear.
- These are work projects, so project supplies and fuel are provided by the GLSPS, but food expenses will be shared by the participating members.

Divers must have Advanced Open Water Diver certification or comparable experience.
In addition some projects will require training in underwater tools and techniques, which
you can obtain by attending the "Underwater Tools and Techniques Class" offered in June every year.
Please, If you sign up for a project and find you are unable to attend for whatever reason,
we would appreciate it if you would notify the project leader
as soon as possible so they can plan accordingly.
